A player can also bet on a hand by placing chips in the pot. Most poker chips are made of ceramic or plastic. The chips are often counted, and they are subsequently traded for money. In some cases, the chips are used to pay for the deck of cards. A player can also build a kitty. The kitty is a special fund that all the players share, and it is used to pay for the deck of cards.
